How do we know that Jesus in the Messiah?

This devotion was published on Christmas Eve - Friday December 24th 2021

MangerFor unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.(Luke 2:11) For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.(Isaiah 9:6) ...and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.(Matthew 1:21) And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.(I John 4:14) By this we know love, that Jesus laid down his life for us…(I John 3:16)

He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief...he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed...out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous.(Isaiah 53:3, 5, 11) He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.(Philippians 2:8-10) And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear, but with righteousness he shall judge...Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his loins.(Isaiah 11:2-5)

Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. (Jeremiah 23:5) Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.(Revelation 19:11, 16) And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself, will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.’ And he who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’(Revelation 21:2-5)

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor.(Isaiah 61:1) Good news of great joy for all the people.(Luke 2:10) The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me...To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.(Isaiah 61:1-2) for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.(Luke 1:49)

MangerAmen!
